2026: Are You Actually Ready? (Or Just Excited?)

A few Sunday mornings ago, my mum, sister, and I were running late for church—as one does. While my mum was still in the bathroom, I asked if I should start checking for rides. She said yes, reminding me she would not take long. (If you know anything about Sunday mornings in Lagos, you know that rides can be... elusive.)
So I opened my ride-hailing apps and said a quick, urgent prayer: God, please give us a ride. Quick!
And just like that, I got one—five minutes away.
Naturally, I went into full panic mode, hurrying my mum and sister along. "We have to go! The car is almost here!" After a few minutes of my relentless rushing, they both turned to me with that look and said, "Adebimpe, stop rushing us o."
I paused. "Ah! See the same people that said they would be ready o."
That moment stayed with me. Because as I laughed it off, something deeper settled in my spirit. How many times have I asked God for something—urgently, desperately, specifically—and He has asked me in return: Are you ready to receive?
(I cannot be the only person who gets asked this question. Abi?)
And how many times have I excitedly, confidently answered, "Yes, Lord! I'm ready!"—only for the thing I prayed for to show up, and I am suddenly... not ready? Not grateful enough. Not prepared in capacity. Not mature enough to steward what He has entrusted to me.
We ask for the ride. God sends it. Then we complain about the urgency of getting in.
Before you excitedly answer "Yes!" the next time God asks if you are ready, I urge you to pause. Take a breath. And pray this instead:
"Lord, give me the grace to truly be ready. Help me to receive well. Prepare my heart, my hands, and my capacity to steward all You have in store for me. Let the Holy Spirit guide me in this, because by my own strength, I will not prevail."
This is not about being perfect. It is about being prepared. It is about recognizing that readiness is not just enthusiasm—it is alignment. It is spiritual maturity. It is the grace to hold what God is giving without dropping it, misusing it, or taking it for granted.
As we journey through this new year, my prayer for you—and for me—is this: that we would ask for grace to be truly ready for all God has in store. Not just the blessings, but the responsibility. Not just the breakthroughs, but the stewardship. Because this is the year that everything aligns. This is the year that preparation meets purpose. This is the year that you will not just ask—you will receive, and you will steward well.
Welcome to 2026!
Stay ready, stay aligned. Adebimpe
